"A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal." ~ Proverbs 12:10

Mission:

Jesus Christ set forth the example of a good shepherd, one who watches over, cares for and guides those in need. Good Shepherd Animal Refuge seeks to do the same for people who are in long term medical treatment, hospice care or who are disabled by assisting with the care of their pet or providing foster care.

Who we are:

Good Shepherd is a group of volunteers dedicated to keeping pets & families together during times of physical crisis. We do this by assisting pet guardians with care of their pet. We provide transportation to vet visits, walking dogs, and cleaning cat litter boxes or bird cages. If needed, short or longer term foster care is provided while the pet guardian is in treatment or Hospice. Placement service is also available in the event that the owner can no longer care for their pet. We want to lessen the amount stress for the pet owner and their family while keeping pets from being surrendered to local animal shelters.

What we do:

We provide the following services for pets

  • Transportation to vet appointments
  • Walking and exercising
  • Feeding and grooming
  • Cleaning of litter boxes/bird cages
  • Foster care
  • Placement services if necessary
What we don't do:

GSAR does not take in animals of those who have decided that having a pet is no longer convenient for them by either lifestyle change, lack of time, etc.  We believe that a pet is a part of the family and deserves a commitment with a “forever” home.

Who we serve:

We seek to assist pet owners who are

  • In long term medical treatment
  • In hospice care
  • Struggling with an acute or chronic disability

*If space is available we provide foster care for those in domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters and those who are facing military deployment

Where we serve:

GSAR is partnered with Organizations primarily in Floyd County, but also encompassing surrounding counties of the Northwest Georgia region if resources are available.
